SEE AND ENJOY

La Chaumière situated in Sainte-Marguerite-sur-Mer is the perfect starting point to discover la Haute Normandy in a pleasant atmosphere. Step outside and explore the splendid ‘campagne’Take walk to the sea along the village’s backyards or via the Saâne valley, abundant in fish. Go for a stroll on the sea front past the daily fish stalls. Cross the road and take a walk in the forest to one of the numerous gorges which lead you between the chalk cliffs to the beach. Breathe the healthy air of the always changing blue green sea which has inspired so many impressionistic painters. Harvest mussels from the rocks or look for a restaurant to get a complete taste of Normandy. Feast your eyes on the Normandy countryside while you walk between the many mansions, manoirs, colombiers and castles hidden between the rich orchards. Or sit in the garden and enjoy the tranquil setting. We have lots of tourist leaflets at your disposal.

Phare d’Ailly (1,5 km) Signposted walks through the forest lead to a lighthouse which offers a magnificent panorama 105m above sea level. With clear skies you can see its light beam 80km far along the coast

Varengeville-sur-mer (5 km) – Parc du bois des moutiers: Park of 12 ha with rhododendrons, azaleas and hydrangeas planted in 1898. – Le manoir d’Ango: The biggest hydrangea garden in the world – The church of “Saint-Valéry‘ with its glass stained windows designed by Georges Braque and a breathtaking panoramic view of the sea and chalk cliffs.

 

Veules-les-Roses (14 km) – Circuit du plus petite fleuve de France: picturesque walk

EXCURSIONS

These exceptionally interesting destinations you can reach easily in a day out:

Fécamp  Etretat (45 km) The Bénédictine Palace in Fécamp and the astonishing chalk arches at the beach of Etretat • Rouen (70 km) The historical capital of Normandy, where Jeanne d’Arc was sentenced and burnt at the stake at the Place du vieux Marché in 1431. Top attractions are the Cathédrale de Notre-Dame and the Abbatiale de Saint-Ouen. It is also the city of 100 clock towers and ‘la Grande Horloge’. A vibrant city at the banks of the river Seine.

• Dieppe (12 km) Château-musée: a museum in the city which is a true maritime memory of the town.

• Honfleur (100 km) An exceptionally picturesque harbour, adjoining: Deauville and Trouville, sophisticated resorts along the Côte Fleurie.

 

ACCESSIBILITY La Chaumière is easy to reach. From Dieppe another 12km. Take the coastal road direction Fécamp, D925. At the roundabout by Hautot sur Mer take a right turn, D55 In Varengeville: left D75 After the sign ‘Sainte Marguerite’in a sharp turn to the right, you should turn left 90°. On our right handside is ‘La Chaumière’, the house with its thatched roof surrounded by an orchard, stable and pasture.

Due to its rural setting most stores are at a short distance. You will find a bakery and grocery store in Longueil and Varengeville (approx. 3 km). Supermarkets can be found in Offranville, Luneray and of course Dieppe.
